Three easy steps to increase reimbursements for public health departments

Three easy steps to increase reimbursements for public health departments.  How a modern Electronic Health Record software can be your friend.

Over the past few years, local health departments have continued to see their budgets shrink. Federal government has mandated that all clinics, including public health, must adopt a federally certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) software. Now, the EHR can actually help public health departments increase revenue and decrease costs.
Public health departments can use new modern EHR software to increase reimbursements by following these three key steps.

  1. Reduce claims denials. An EHR designed with a built in data scrubber can dramatically cut down denials, increasing reimbursements. The data scrubber looks for the edits which a payer (e.g. Medicaid or Cigna) look for and flags your billing person of any potential denials even before a claim is sent out.
  2. Reduce billing errors. An intelligent EHR automatically remembers (much like Google) frequently used codes reducing data entry errors.
  3. Expand number of payers. Using an EHR which can connect to all the 2000+ payers (including Medicaid, Medicare, Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield etc.) can provide additional revenue source for local health departments.

By adopting a public health focused EHR, you too can get on a path to increased revenue.
