Survey indicates mobile technology is critical to healthcare industry
Results from the third annual HIMSS Analytics Mobile Survey are in, and not surprisingly, they point toward an increased appetite for mobile technology usage in healthcare. 170 healthcare IT and clinical personnel weighed in via the survey. Here are some of the key insights:
- Fifty-nine percent of respondents have a mobile technology plan. Another 29 percent are working to develop one.
- The number of respondents using apps for patient/consumer use has jumped 20 percent over the last year. And, more than half of respondents want to expand their use of apps.
- Ninety-five percent of personnel indicated they secure data on mobile devices with at least one tool (i.e. passwords).
- More than 50 percent of those surveyed said that alerts from remote monitoring devices are delivered via an EMR system.
- Respondents identified “improved access to patient information and remote access” as the top benefits of mobile technology. “Lack of funding” was identified as the top barrier.
